My name is Ayla and I am an undergraduate student at the end of my third year at the University of Victoria, double majoring in environmental studies and gender studies. I am interested in how these two areas of study interact and have a passion for bringing environmental justice into my studies of ecology. I believe that through my studies in gender, I bring a vital perspective to studies of the environment. I have experience in the restaurant industry and retail, taking on a variety of roles through which I have gained skills valuable to other areas of my life. I am involved in my university’s surf club and ecological restoration club, and in my spare time I enjoy playing guitar and exploring the local BC music scene. I have volunteered with organizations focusing on environmental restoration where I gained hands on experience in the field of ecology. Through my education, work, and volunteering I have developed a variety of the valuable skills showcased on this website. I hope to contribute to meaningful environmental work with a focus on environmental justice, in order to better understand and address the highly social dimensions of climate change, justice, and environmentalism.
